|JIM THOMPSON: A THAI RESTAURANT
A World-leading Thai Restaurant
Jim Thompson: A Thai Restaurant offers definitive Thai cuisine in a Dempsey Hill heritage venue with a stunning interior designed to surpass any other Thai restaurant in the world.
“Absolutely Thai, Thompson-style”
The restaurant’s distinctive approach is “absolutely Thai, Thompson-style.”
“Absolutely Thai” means the chefs have tested many, many recipes for each classic dish to refine what they believe experienced palettes will judge the very most delicious version.
“Thompson-style” means the cooking, menu and interior all reflect an appealing mix of tradition and innovation, inspired by the founder Jim Thompson’s marvelous taste in designing silk and his famous Bangkok mansion.
A Definitive Menu
More than 80 classic Thai dishes, including appetizers, spicy salads, soups, curries, main dishes, seafood, barbeque, noodles, desserts and more.
Menu is pork-free, with many delicious choices for vegetarians.
A changing menu of specials features innovations by the restaurant’s own chefs and new and traditional dishes from Jim Thompson’s monthly in-house “cooking challenge” contests in Thailand.
Authentic Siamese dips, called nam prik, pair with steamed vegetables and crudités.
The wine list is selected to complement flavourful Thai cuisine. An advanced Italian system keeps eight fine bottles open for order by the glass, half-glass or taste, at various price levels. Bar serves a full range of cocktails.
Non-alcoholic beverages include zesty fruit juice shakes and traditional Siamese herbal drinks.
Kitchen is led by Executive Chef Chokchai Saensimon and an expert team of Thai nationals.
Designed to Stun
The company has invested S$3.5 million and Jim Thompson’s extensive design resources to create a sumptuous interior surpassing any other Thai restaurant in the world.
Palatial interior space features dazzling Thai contemporary style reinterpreting 19th century Siamese arts, crafts and architecture. The mood is exciting and elegant, yet friendly.
Dramatic 15-metre ceilings and a parade of 16 free-standing columns, each 1-metre wide.
Carved, gilded furniture; Siamese glass wall mosaics; bold floor mosaic; and half a kilometre of hand loomed Thai silk furnishings; and more.
Wine bar features a wall display of northern Thai artifacts in silhouette, fronting panels of iridescent Thai silk.

The Thai Silk Company was founded in Bangkok in 1950 by the American architect Jim Thompson and six Thai investors. Thompson disappeared mysteriously on vacation in Malaysia in 1967, but his initiative succeeded in reviving Thailand’s craft weaving industry. Today the Thai-owned firm is the world’s largest maker of hand-woven fabrics, with some 3,500 employees in Southeast Asia, Japan and Europe.
Our shops are famous for premium interior textiles and soft furnishings; fashions like classic dresses, scarves, shirts and neckties; and accessories like handbags. These quality products are especially sought by gift buyers. The company’s food and beverage venues are an extension of Jim Thompson’s philosophy of bringing the best of Thai culture to the world.
