Ban Krua, a Cham Muslim community who migrated from the Champa Kingdom, originally located in the territory of Vietnam and Cambodia and participated in the war during the Nine Armies War in the name of the Cham Volunteer Corps until receiving land from King Rama I to set up a household in the Thung Phaya Thai bamboo forest Pathumwan-Ratchathewi along the Saen Saeb canal. The Islamic Cham community is well known for their ability to weave silk. Originally, their woven fabric was mainly used in their own households and later on they weaved special patterns to offer to the royal court of Siam. The turning point of the community Baan Krua and the Thai silk industry dated after World War II when Mr. James H. W. Thompson, a former CIA agent known as the “King of Thai Silk", became the pioneer of the Thai silk industry and made it famous all over the world under the brand name Jim Thompson. The Ban Krua community was the main source of the brand's silk production in the early years of the company.
