SURF WINS ‘HOMES & GARDENS’ FABRIC AWARD
|
The fresh, modern 'Surf' from the Andaman collection by Jim Thompson has been awarded 'Best Outdoor Fabric' by Homes & Gardens magazine. The awards, held in September during Decorex, the annual international show for interior design professionals, were hosted by Homes & Gardens Editor Deborah Barker and Deputy Editor Giles Kime.
“This is the perfect option for a good-looking outdoor scheme”, commented the judges, “this would look as good in the Cotswolds as in the Caribbean.”
Surf cushions were displayed on the Homes & Gardens stand at Decorex, which took the form of a showcase of the winning designs.
The award is the latest commendation for the Andaman collection, which has been exceptionally well received in the UK as a versatile and sophisticated option for contemporary outdoor spaces. |

The Andaman Collection by Jim Thompson
The Andaman Collection takes on its name after the majestic Andaman Sea simply because the fabrics reflect the very spirit of this tropical Eden. It is through the astounding images that stand for the Andaman’s exotic hues that one is transported into a world of decadence.
For centuries, this vast stretch of beach along Thailand’s west has enchanted a legion of foreign and local tourists who flock there for a stay that is forever engraved in their memories. Like them, Jim Thompson’s affinity for the beach, and also for Thailand’s rich culture and heritage, is unquestionable. It was only a matter of time before Jim Thompson brought style to “outdoor living”.
The Andaman Collection, Jim Thompson’s first outdoor collection which offers fabrics in an abundance of vibrant indigenous colours, is a testament to the company’s sheer ingenuity in blending the exoticism of the East with the functionality of the West.
Jim Thompson’s refined occidental taste intertwined with Asian inspired designs is what sets all of Jim Thompson’s collections in a class of their own.

3235 SURF
100% Acrylic
4 colorways
Martindale 32,750 rubs
This all-weather 100 percent acrylic fabric guarantees that waves will not only be breaking out at sea but also on land. With fresh bright colours punctuated with a contrasting black, Surf offers a young and modern feel to this outdoor collection. |

3236 CORAL
100% Acrylic
2 colorways
Martindale 30,000 rubs
This fabric is Jim Thompson’s own impression of the jewels of the Andaman. Coral brings together all of the colours that represent the Andaman’s marine life; the full width, large scale, multi-coloured stripes take you past a school of parrotfish and clownfish hiding amongst the anemone. |

3237 WAVE
100% Acrylic
4 colorways
Martindale 31,667 rubs
The variegated warps and wefts recreate the lapping of waves. See how the linear patterns form bars of coloration, offering a palette of tones that bounce off the fabrics like crashing waves into a shoreline. Wave is available in all colours evocative of the Andaman’s ever-changing waters. |

3238 SAND
100% Acrylic
6 colorways
Martindale 22,000 rubs
Like the vast sandy beaches of the Andaman coast glittered with multi-coloured seashells, Sand’s charm lies within its assortment of neutral colours that open up a floodgate of vivid images. The use of subtle colours in the strie not only adds depth to Sand, but also evokes a collection of thoughts - from the morning rays reflecting against the sand, to the glint of the pearly shells at noon, to warm evening twinkles of light at sunset… |

3239 PALM
100% Acrylic
6 colorways
Martindale 20,000 rubs
The geometric cubes breathe life into the fabric, ideal for accommodating an exuberant lifestyle basking in the sun. The patterns are inspired by the glossy leaves of the indigenous sugar palm often used for local basket weaving. With its weather-proof qualities Palm is most suitable for outdoor upholstery. Colours range from azure blue to indigenous greens and browns of coconut groves of the Andaman. |

3240 ANDAMAN
100% Acrylic
24 colorways
Martindale 11,500 rubs
Somewhere beyond the sea an ocean of colours is waiting to be a designer’s ultimate form of indulgence. Andaman is influenced by Phuket, one of Jim Thompson’s best-selling fabrics. Appreciated for its “end and end” technique of alternating warp colours, Andaman breaks away from the outdoor collection norm and offers up to 24 colours on a silver platter. Also, by cleverly combining colours, each fabric comes alive with an iridescence that is so very reminiscent of the original Jim Thompson silks- the lap of luxury for outdoor fabric. |
