ANGKOR COLLECTION
The elegance and majesty of a legendary kingdom come to life in Jim Thompson’s Angkor Collection. Master weavers have threaded the secrets of the past into a rich array of silks and silk blends. Jim Thompson, an avid collector of Cambodian antiques, greatly appreciated the artistic talents of the ancient Khmer. He often visited areas where descendants of weavers to the Angkor kings still ply their craft. The raising of unique local varieties of natural silk, time-honored dying techniques and complex ikat weaving methods fascinated Thompson. Brilliantly, he realized that this age-old craftsmanship could be transformed to suit modern décor and contemporary use.
The nobility of Angkor would be well-pleased with these regal offering. Imbued with the same sense of awe-inspiring majesty that greets a first-time visitor to Angkor, the six-ply silks in this collection are of the same grandeur. Master weavers have created memorable designs and fabrics.

3305 ANGKOR
100% silk
handwoven
5 colorways
“I have never seen anything more wonderful in the world than the temples of Angkor, but I do not know how I am going to set down in black and white such an account….. (Somerset Maugham)”
The same could be said of this six-ply silk which radiates a beauty that is impossible to describe on paper. Hand-reeled silk and an undulating weft-ikat patterning of distinctive colors give regal status to this powerful fabric. While drawing from traditional ikat patterns and natural dye colors, this contemporary version of an ancient craft is striking in the boldness and size of its pattern. Jim Thompson would be well pleased with this luxurious cloth. |

Kala in Sanskrit means “time” and the large swirling design on this six-ply silk is a new adaption of timelessly elegance. This marbleized pattern which finds its origin in the end papers of 18th and 19th century European books is created by the elaborate technique of warp printing. The bold, large scale undulating lines flaunt tradition with a strong, new statement. |

3308 BAYON
92% silk, 8% polyester
handwoven
5 colorways
The enormous smiling faces of the grand Bayon temple are the most memorable images of Angkor. And living up to its name, this fabric with its enormous stripes of contrasting colors is as memorable as those smiling faces. This sturdy polyester blend is made to endure in memory and time like the monuments of Angkor. The wonderfully rich polyester-silk blend fabric, a daring new version of an old Jim Thompson favorite, is as durable as it is memorable. The fabric comes in five different color ranges, each with distinctive raised weft lines dividing bold weft stripes. |

The Baphuon style is known for its classic elegance and beauty. And, living up to its name, this fabric is striking with its enormous plaid pattern interrupted with contrasting random weft ikat stripes. Here Jim Thompson takes a traditional plaid design and blows it up to enormous proportions. The raised weft ikat stripe is in bold contrast to the two-tone plaid background. |

3306 NAGA
50% silk – 50% cotton
handwoven
5 colorways
This incredibly complex six-ply silk is named after Asia’s mysterious mythical serpent the Naga. Worshiped in ancient times as a protector of the earth and rivers, the Naga motif appears repeatedly in local art. Here Jim Thompson has drawn on rich earth tones and blues from the skies and rivers to create the five colorways. Texture is created through the use of raised silk lines running the length of the weft, which are contrasted by a diagonal printed pattern borne out of warp printing. The effect is of a shimmering mythical Naga sliding though the grass. |
